Here
are some helpful hints when cooking with Tofu.
·
Remember that tofu will absorb the flavors of what ever you cook with
it, kind of like a sponge absorbing liquid.
·
Barbecue it
San Diego Soy Dairy Tofu Firm Style can be barbecued. When cut in
1/2" slices and placed on the grill. It will hold shape and barbecue
up great. Using your favorite sauce you end up with a great tasting
dish.
·Blend
it
Yes, just add a quarter pound of the Soft Style to the blender to
thicken up a salad dressing or protein drink.
·
Freeze It
To freeze tofu just remove it from the water pack tub place either in
plastic wrap or zip lock bag and freeze. Thaw out before using in the
fridge. It will have an off white color but it is fine. Stir Fry it,
deep fry it, bake it. It will have the texture of chicken and can be
used in many ways.
·
Marinate It
First When you marinate tofu it is a good idea to cut it in 1/2" slices
or even smaller so the marinate will have more surface area to penetrate
to the middle. Use any marinate sauce you wish or use one from our
recipe book. You can also boil the marinate sauce into the tofu if
your in a hurry. The easier method is to put the tofu into a plastic
container, fill it with marinate sauce, cover and place in the fridge
overnight or several days then cook with it. Marinate small cubes,
batter it, and deep-fry it.
·
Bake it
Simply cut the tofu into slabs of any thickness desired, put a sauce
on it or herbs and bake it with veggies. Broil it in the same fashion.
·
Sauté it
Both the firm style and the herbal make great additions or main
attractions to most pasta dishes.
·
Stir Fry it
You
can create your own marinade for our Firm Style or use our Teriyaki
Baked Style to create fantastic stir frys. Add onions, celery, carrots,
bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, pinapple, anything you like! Cook in
a wok or large frying pan, add rice and you have a heathy, quick meal
for friends or family.
Anything
you can think of for preparing tofu can be done. It will not melt
so it will not replace cheese in similarity. When making cottage cheese
type salads, or tuna salads you just mash up the tofu, add your favorite
ingredients and blend them in. You can not really go wrong with preparing
tofu. The blended ingredients of whatever you add to tofu will create
the taste of the tofu.
